Giro D’Italia enters the hot phase, two teams withdraw!

The 103rd edition of the Italian Giro has entered the climax to determine this year the winner of the second most important cycling activity in the globe, however, leaving aside the races, the organizers continue to respect the austerity measures and the protocol set in advance for the progress of this competition. This year ‘s edition was more or less expected to be such a very difficult edition, due to fears of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, however the organizers of the Giro preferred to continue the tradition, not giving up the development of the annual activity. cycling along the Apennines.

Pursuant to the standard procedures defined before the start of this edition, mass testing of participating cyclists took place, from where a total of 571 molecular buffers were performed. After these checks, the Dutch cyclist Steven Kruijsijk and the Australian Michael Mattheas, along with 6 members of the accompanying teams, tested positive, while the Australian team Mitchelton-Scott finally withdrew from this year’s edition of the Italian Giro, while a few hours later the same followed by the leaders of the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma. So all the cyclists and the respective staff members were tested, for each of the 22 participating teams and the news of the day was exactly the publication of the results for the molecular buffers.

Based on the health protocol of the Italian Giro that was drafted based on the agreement with the International Cycling Federation UCI and in accordance with the measures previously determined by the Italian Ministry of Health, all cyclists along with other staff members in their teams underwent mass testing, which was conducted on 11 and 12 October. According to the official press release of the Giro, 571 tests were performed, out of which only two cyclists tested positive. These are cyclists Steven Kruijswijk and Michael Matthews, who compete for the teams Jumbo-Visma and Sunweb, respectively. Everything was made official by the leaders of these teams and these cyclists were entrusted to the doctors of the respective teams, who in turn immediately took measures to implement the isolation measures.

Meanwhile, there are 4 staff members of the Australian team Mitchelton – Scott, 1 in the French team Ag2r-La Mondiale and another in the British team Ineos Grenadiers, who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and the same isolation procedure was followed. even by the doctors of these teams for these persons. In this way, the results immediately influenced the remaining stages of the 103rd season of the Italian Giro, given the fact that after these developments, the Australian team Mitchelton-Scott and the Dutch team Jumbo-Visma decided to withdraw from this year’s edition.
