Applications are invited for the post of Senior Building Services Technician (Electrician) based at the Electrical Engineering Division in West Cambridge.
The Electrical Engineering Division’s research centres heavily on high power and 3-phase applications where safety is of the upmost importance. The Senior Building Services Technician (Electrician) is responsible for electrical installations of new equipment, electrical safety and testing of laboratory equipment, design and installation of bespoke circuitry in laboratories and expert advice on electrical design safety to academics and students; along with providing technical advice and coaching on interpreting blueprints and understanding electrical systems to technical staff. You will also provide immediate reactive maintenance whenever an electrical emergency or safety issue arises. In addition to this, you will sign off electrical projects within the Design and Technician Services and other satellite divisions.
You will also support routine electrical maintenance of the Electrical Engineering building, annexe, Nanoscience Centre; the Divisions based at West Cambridge and part of the wider shared facilities initiative for West Cambridge if the capacity is available.
We are seeking applicants with a level standard of education / qualification equitable to HNC/HND, level 4/5 vocational qualifications, a time-served apprenticeship or an equivalent level of practical experience. Test and inspection and verification of electrical systems; and 18th Edition Wiring qualifications are essential. City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/95 Inspection & testing (or equivalent) are desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
